Salomon X Ultra Hiking Boots
Women's Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GORE-TEX Hiking Boots (REI | Amazon) Men's Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GORE-TEX Hiking Boots (REI | Amazon)
The Salomon X Ultra Hiking Boots have been my favorite hiking boots for years. When I tried them on for the first time, they were instantly comfortable out of the box. There was no break-in period for these boots, and I’ve never experienced blisters or rubbing. I have been very impressed with the ankle support and traction.
The Salomon X Ultra Hiking Boots are available in both men’s and women’s. We recommend the waterproof GORE-TEX versions for versatility and in case of rain or mud while on the trail.
The latest waterproof mid-cut (i.e. above ankle) version of the boots are the Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GORE-TEX Hiking Boots. For discounted pricing, check out previous seasons of this hiking boot.

Salomon Speedcross Trail Running Shoe
Women's Salomon Speedcross 6 Trail Running Shoes (REI | Amazon) Men's Salomon Speedcross 6 Trail Running Shoes (REI | Amazon)
While the Salomon Speedcross is a trail running shoe, not a hiking boot, we recommend adding these shoes to your arsenal for shorter hikes that don’t require ankle stability. Jordan and I both have been hiking in these shoes for years and love how nimble we feel in them.

Women's Danner Mountain 600 Hiking Boots (REI | Amazon) Men's Danner Mountain 600 Hiking Boots (REI | Amazon)

The technical yet fashionable Danner Mountain 600 Hiking Boots are waterproof and lighter weight than the Mountain Light boots. They are available in both women’s and men’s versions.

Trying On and Deciding on Hiking Boots
We recommend trying on and testing your new hiking boots prior to going out on a hike in order to ensure a comfortable fit. While taking your new kicks for a test spin, be sure to walk on a downward slope to make sure your toes do not touch the front of the boot. If your toes touch, your toes will get jammed into the front of your boot while hiking downhill, which can be painful over time. A comfortable hiking boot is key for an enjoyable hike.
